New denim, new badge. The prominent overdyed emblem on the left arm of this raw denim overshirt lets everyone know that you are in fact wearing the newly launched Stone Island Denim Research line.
The sculptural form of
a short parka made
of 7oz rinsed denim woven from a mixture of indigo-dyed cotton and polypropylene yarns, making it surprisingly lightweight. Just visible, a pair of cargo trousers and an overshirt.
Recipe for a hooded jacket: take lightweight tela fabric made with star-shaped cross-section yarns. Assemble. Dye with indigo pigment and an anti-drop agent to ensure the garment is both waterproof and breathable. Apply heat to radically transform the material’s handle and structure. Congratulations! You now have the David Light Indigo-TC hooded jacket (garment code Q100029). Seen just below it, an overshirt and trousers made
of lightweight hollow fibre nylon.
Did you know? Stone Island has been making denim since 1984 but hasn’t had a dedicated denim line since the early-mid 2000s. Welcome back! This coach jacket is made of 13.5oz bull denim with a compact 3/1 twill weave for added durability. The jeans are made of the exact same material. They have five pockets, of which the back two are reinforced. (Garment code J100005.)
It’s a utility vest in 7oz rinsed denim woven from a mixture of indigo-dyed cotton and polypropylene yarn. The cargo trousers with asymmetrical pockets running over the thigh and the short parka held over the shoulder are made of the same material. The overshirt, meanwhile, is made of hollow-fibre nylon that has been garment dyed with indigo pigment and then faded with Stone Island’s signature corrosion treatment.
Here, a bomber jacket and overshirt made of microcorduroy comprising indigo-dyed cotton and white polyester.
The Stone Island Denim Research line also includes materials that are not, technically speaking, denim but embrace the wider world of denim innovation. This utility vest, for instance, is made of ultra lightweight Japanese polyester and polyamide yarns.
A coach jacket made of 13.5oz denim woven from indigo-dyed organic cotton with a 4-thread twill weave. The five-pocket jeans, meanwhile, are made of a slightly lighter 12oz denim and have a subtle stretch.
It’s the same coach jacket and five-pocket jean combo, seen in rinsed indigo-dyed organic cotton, left, and bull denim, right.
